HIDALGO, Texas – During the 16th annual Budweiser South Padre Island BikeFest™ in October, thousands of motorcycles roared through the Rio Grande Valley on their way to the beach.

After tallying up proceeds from this year’s BikeFest, which brought more than 10,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to South Padre Island from Oct. 8-11, rally organizers are providing $48,436 to split between the non-profit groups. The money will be awarded during a check presentation on Dec. 2 in Hidalgo at the Dodge Arena at 6 p.m., prior to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees hockey game.

BikeFest donates money from the rally to several South Texas charities each year. Event organizers have donated a total of $625,965 to area non-profits during the event’s sixteen-year history. “We appreciate the support that the entire Valley gives to the Budweiser South Padre island BikeFest each year, and this is a way for us to say thank you to many of the people who help make BikeFest possible,” says G.J. Reyna, rally coordinator of SPI BikeFest Inc.

Each year, BikeFest organizers take funding applications from area non-profit organizations and select recipients to share in the event proceeds. Many of the winning organizations provided workers to help staff the all-volunteer event.

1.    RGV Harley Owners Group, McAllen
