Texan, Grammy-winning musician and motorcyclist Lyle Lovett has signed on as the 2013 National Spokesperson of Ride for Kids, benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

“All you have to do is meet some of these children that the Ride for Kids helps and it makes you a believer in what it accomplishes,” Lovett said. “The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation provides essential funding for research into pediatric brain tumors and really helps children and their families cope with that horrible disease.”

In his role, Lovett will record public service announcements for TV, radio and other media to shine a spotlight on children’s brain tumors.

The Ride for Kids program is now in its 30th year of raising awareness and funds through a national series of motorcycle events. These fun-filled, family-friendly rides take place in more than 40 cities across the country and feature moving stories from local brain tumor survivors and their families.

“We are thrilled that Lyle Lovett is serving as our national spokesperson to raise awareness of one of the deadliest forms of childhood cancer,” says PBTF President and CEO Robin Boettcher. “As a longtime supporter of Ride for Kids, he understands that we’re riding for a reason. With his help, we’ll reach more motorcyclists and educate more people about the need to cure the kids.”

More than 28,000 children in the United States are living with the diagnosis of a brain tumor, and 11 more cases are identified each day. Motorcyclists have helped the PBTF make a difference to these children and their families by raising more than $70 million since 1984. From developing improved treatment options to offering college scholarships to brain tumor survivors, the PBTF is dedicated to meeting the challenges of childhood brain tumors.
