If you like quirky, out of the way places that have a sign outside saying “Welcome Bikers,” you should visit the Castell General Store. Castell is on FM 152, about 18 miles west from Llano or take FM 2768 south from TX 29 to this small community on the beautiful Llano River. Every Saturday and sometimes on Sunday, BBQ is cooked on the open grill. Sit around the picnic tables with the friendly locals and soak in the laid back atmosphere. The most unique feature, however, is Randy’s $103,000 rooster. It‘s worth the drive to see it perform. Bring your camera. Enjoy the camaraderie, food, drinks and, of course, the rooster show. Randy also owns a B&B next to the river and will give you a key if you want to check it out.
