ABOUTTelling the stories of Texas

Since 1998, RTM's mission has been to tell the stories of Texas. Our goal is to share the stories that that not only tell you about great places to travel, but why you should go. With a team of talented writers and photographers who are experts in Texas, motorcycles and travel, RTM has been selected for 7 journalism awards from the Dallas and Houston Press Clubs, including awards for writing, photography and graphic design. Although it's the readers appraisal of the magazine that matters most, professional recognition of the magazines content is an affirmation of the quality of the magazine. (See the bibliography of issues.)

Our prime directive is to take no sides in the "my bike is better than your bike" wars that often divide the motorcycle community. Ride and let ride. The magazine's writers ride a diversity of types of bikes. Just picture your bike and you on the cover or in the articles and you're there.

The condensed history

RIDE TEXAS® Magazine started as a website, texmoto.com. Texmoto.com was a collection of rides the founders, Miguel and Valerie Asensio posted online in 1998. Both founders had full-time jobs in high-tech. The demand for back roads information was overwhelming and texmoto.com became a popular website, but riders wanted more information—information that could be carried with them on rides. The founders' first book, The Best Little Roads in Texas was published in 1998 and the first run sold out quickly. Concerned that the name might infringe on someone's copyright, the founders renamed the book, Ride Texas! The motorcycle Ride Guide for the Roads of Texas. That was in 1998. The book has been through several editions, but is the seed of what was to become RIDE TEXAS® Magazine, much later. Texmoto.com went from being online only, to being a printed periodical. One at a time the founders resigned their corporate jobs to dedicate themselves to TEXMOTO Magazine full-time.

TEXMOTO Magazine's first issue was March 1998. It was printed on newspaper stock and was a black and white, 24-page, free magazine. The founders changed the name of the magazine to match the successful ride guide, Ride Texas! in 2002. RIDE TEXAS® was printed full color, on glossy stock. Partnering with a national magazine distributor made the magazine available across Texas and the USA. RIDE TEXAS® Magazine is now available on newsstands in 38 states and has international subscribers in Canada, England, Germany, and Puerto Rico. Everyone wants to RIDE TEXAS®, and why not? We hate to brag, but Texas has it all.

RTM Forum & blogs coming July 8th

Our goal is to make the ridetexas.com website into the information and connection hub readers have been asking for. There's a lot of new stuff here. We hope you'll click around. On July 8th we'll launch the RTM Community with forums and blogs by some of the regular RTM writers. You'll be able to join the conversation about roads and destinations, post photos and videos, and share your world with other riders.

We welcome your comments about what's good, bad and what's missing from the mix. Welcome to ridetexas.com 2.0.
